(Denver) –Legislators and Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia attended the American Military Family Honor Rally that was sponsored by Rep. Nancy Todd (D-Aurora) today at the State Capitol.
The AMF Honor Rally was organized by Gold Star Family Dan and Michelle Benavidez, who lost their son, Staff Sargeant Kennith W. Mayne, in combat. Today’s rally is one stop on a 64-day campaign that began on April 13, 2012, at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs and will end on June 15, 2012, at the Middle East Memorial Wall in Marseilles, Ill.
Both Democratic and Republican representatives and senators came out to
support the rally and raise awareness and funds in honor of the troops and their families. Patriot Riders, Gold Star families and United Veterans Committee members were among those in attendance. Rep. Todd said she was honored to sponsor such an event.
“The AMF Honor Rally is an amazing way to help honor our brave men and
women who have dedicated their lives to fighting for us, and their families who support and sacrifice for the rest of us,” Rep. Todd said. “My full thanks go to the Benavidez family, who took the unspeakable tragedy of losing their son and organized this wonderful campaign in order to give back. Without them, this campaign wouldn’t have happened. I also thank all of my colleagues in the House and Senate who came out in support as well as Lt. Gov. Garcia. Supporting our troops is not a partisan issue. It’s a responsibility of all of us, and today’s support is one of many ways we can continue to give back to our soldiers.”
AMF is a 501c3 working in support of U.S. troops and their families through financial assistance and emotional support.
