(Dec. 10) – Speaker-designate Mark Ferrandino has named Rep. Dan Pabon (D-Denver) to sit on the Task Force on the Implementation of Amendment 64, a blue-ribbon panel that will address legislative and regulatory issues surrounding the recreational use of marijuana.
The roster of the 24-member task force, assembled by Gov. John Hickenlooper, was announced by the governor today. Amendment 64, approved by the voters last month, requires the adoption of regulations governing the production, sale and consumption of recreational marijuana.
“The people of Colorado endorsed Amendment 64 and gave us a tight deadline,” Rep. Pabon said. “It will be the task force’s job to recommend a legal framework that permits marijuana use by adults without compromising the health and safety of non-smokers, including our children.”
“We have to work quickly but carefully,” said Rep. Pabon, the incoming assistant House majority leader. “This is a major change for the state of Colorado, with many challenges. We’re heading into uncharted territory where we’ll be creating a regulated, legitimate industry while we navigate our way with federal and local authorities. It’s important that the task force build a strong framework.”
