(Feb. 20) – A bill that will create an oversight committee to monitor the effectiveness of information technology services in government passed the House State, Military & Veterans Affairs Committee by a vote of 10 to one.
Over the next few years, the state will be replacing several aging and outdated software systems for departments, and over the past several years, many attempts to replace these out-of-date systems have failed, wasting tens of millions of Colorado taxpayers’ dollars.
HB13-1079, sponsored by Rep. Max Tyler (D-Lakewood), will create a Joint Technology Committee that will be comprised of three members from each chamber and meet to review and discuss new proposals for state investments in software and monitor the implementation of current projects.
“The lack of oversight has led to millions of dollars being wasted, and I want to ensure our taxpayer dollars are being spent efficiently,” Rep. Tyler said. “This is about making our government more elegant.”
