(Sept. 11) – Rep. Angela Williams (D-Denver) has been named Democrat of the Year by the Denver County Democratic Party.
Rep. Williams will receive the award at the party’s annual awards dinner on Oct. 11, along with lifetime achievement award winner Margaret Atencio, volunteer of the year Aaron Goldhamer and rising star Alec Garnett.
“I’m deeply honored, and I congratulate the other winners,” Rep. Williams said. “We all share a desire to move Colorado forward.”
Rep. Williams is chairwoman of the Business, Labor, Employment and Workforce Development Committee, and is chairwoman of the Black Democratic Legislative Caucus. In the 2014 legislative session she was the principal author of a legislative package bringing Colorado’s telecommunications laws into the 21st century, including provisions to increase competition and drive down costs and to expand rural broadband, which will help rural Colorado remain competitive in an increasingly fast-paced, technology-driven world.
