(April 20) – A bill by Majority Leader Crisanta Duran to place protections around fantasy sports in order to ensure Coloradans can continue to play and have a fair chance to win passed 9-2 out of the House Finance Committee this afternoon.
“This bill is about ensuring that people who are playing fantasy sports can continue to do so,” said Majority Leader Duran, who shares prime sponsorship of the bill with Rep. Cole Wist, R-Centennial. “We’ve worked to create legislation that will ensure all Coloradans who choose to play know they have a fair shot at winning.”
HB16-1404 declares that a fantasy contest is a game of skill and puts in place several consumer protections to ensure all players compete on a level playing field. More than 800,000 Coloradans play fantasy sports on a regular basis.
The bill now proceeds to the House floor for second reading.
