(April 9) – Rep. Barbara McLachlan’s bill to address one facet of Colorado’s affordable housing crisis debuted successfully today in the House Finance Committee.

HB18-1315, which is also sponsored by Rep. Jon Becker, R-Fort Morgan, is part of the House Democrats’ affordable housing agenda. Under current law, purchasers of mobile homes must pay sales tax as well as property tax. The bill exempts buyers from the sales tax.

“Hardworking Coloradans deserve home ownership they can afford,” said Rep. McLachlan, D-Durango. “This bill ends a double taxation situation and addresses the affordable housing crisis that affects many areas of our state.”

The Finance Committee’s unanimous 13-0 vote sends HB18-1315 to the Appropriations Committee.
