(Dec. 2) – Rep. Janet Buckner, D-Aurora was appointed Speaker Pro Tempore today by Speaker-designate KC Becker, D-Boulder.
“Janet has been a respected figure in the capitol, a leader within our caucus and a tireless advocate for the community. This position will allow her to continue to build bridges. I can think of no better person to join our leadership team in this key role than Janet Buckner,” said Speaker-designate KC Becker.
“I am honored to be chosen for this position and for the confidence Rep. Becker is placing in me,” said Rep. Buckner. “I’m eager to continue working with the Speaker, Majority Leader Garnett, other leadership and my colleagues to pass an agenda that will continue to expand opportunity for Coloradans in every community.”
Buckner will continue serving on the Education Committee. Buckner is in her third term representing House District 40 in southern Aurora. She previously served as vice chairwoman of the Education Committee and sat on the Health, Insurance & Environment Committee.
The Speaker Pro Tem presides over the House when the Speaker is absent. It is the only leadership position not elected by the majority caucus; it is appointed at the discretion of the Speaker.
