Rep. Edie Hooton
Edie Hooton is serving her first term in the state legislature, representing House District 10 in Boulder. Rep. Hooton serves on the House Public Health Care & Human Services and State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committees.
During her freshman year in the Colorado House, Rep. Hooton prioritized Coloradans of all walks of life, taking action to provide consumers with more comprehensive explanations of their utility bills, to prevent the expulsion of students in preschool through 2nd grade except when required by federal law, and to allow the sealing of criminal records relating to marijuana misdemeanors if they would not have been considered criminal offenses under Colorado’s updated marijuana laws.
Rep. Hooton has an extensive background as an advocate for progressive candidates and causes, with a special focus on reproductive rights, access to quality education for all, and increasing voter participation.
She is a 20-year resident of Boulder, having moved from Pennsylvania, where she worked for the Philadelphia Electric Company and the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Before that she was a legislative aide in the United States Senate and the Alaska state legislature in an era when reproductive choice, sane immigration policy, affordable, well-funded public education and environmental protection were values shared by both parties.
Rep. Hooton is a decade-long member of the executive committee of the Boulder County Democratic Party, a former president of the Democratic Women of Boulder County and has been an active supporter of the Blue Flower Fund of Colorado (supporting pro-choice women candidates), the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence, Planned Parenthood and the Boulder Women’s Health Center.
Having launched Pesto Manifesto, a line of gourmet food products, she also understands the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship and small business.
Rep. Hooton has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
Rep. Hooton and her husband, Jim, have two children. Ned attends the University of Colorado in Boulder and Ginny is enrolled at Boulder High School.
