Rep. Daneya Esgar, D-Pueblo
Rep. Daneya Esgar is entering her second term in the Colorado House of Representatives. She has been chosen by her colleagues to join House leadership as Caucus Chair. She was also appointed to serve as vice chair of the House Health, Insurance & Environment Committee and on the Agriculture, Livestock & Natural Resources, Transportation & Energy and Capitol Development Committees.
Rep. Esgar had many successes in the 2016 session including her work to allow unaccompanied homeless youth to be eligible for in-state tuition, to legalize rain barrels, to rebuild trust between police and the community, to prepare high school students for high-tech careers and to ensure Colorado economic recovery reaches everyone in Colorado.
The granddaughter of steelworkers and born and raised in Pueblo, Rep. Esgar is a graduate of Pueblo City Schools and Colorado State University-Pueblo. She has worked a television news producer and a community organizer focusing on poverty and communities of color in Pueblo. She is known for her work on issues of equality, education, justice, and poverty.
Rep. Esgar lives with her wife, Heather Palm, in Pueblo.
