Rep. Faith Winter, D-Westminster

303-866-2843

Faith Winter is in her second term representing House District 35, which includes the Adams County portion of Westminster and unincorporated areas of Adams County. She is chairwoman of the Transportation & Energy Committees and also sits on the Appropriations Committee.

Rep. Winter sponsored one of the most forward-looking new laws of the 2017 legislative session – a measure making Colorado one of the first states in the nation to set safety standards for driverless cars. Autonomous vehicles can’t drive drunk, distracted or tired. They also promise to provide new mobility options for the elderly and disabled and have the potential to increase capacity on Colorado roads.

In 2016 Rep. Winter passed a new law improving accommodations for pregnant women in the workplace, so fewer women are pushed out of the workforce by avoidable circumstances. In 2015 she sponsored a key component of the Colorado Ready to Work jobs package — a bill that allows high schools to provide coursework that will count toward graduation and toward apprenticeship programs in high-demand professions.

She was elected to the legislature after seven years on the Westminster City Council, where she helped to make Westminster the first platinum solar city in the state. She also championed small business support and services for survivors of domestic violence. She is past chairwoman of the Adams County Housing Authority and also serves on the advisory board for A Precious Child and the board of the Butterfly Pavilion.

Rep. Winter is former executive director of Emerge Colorado, which is dedicated to identifying, training and encouraging women to run for office, and was a national field director for the White House Project, which also worked to engage women in the political process.

She also served as program director for Colorado Conservation Voters and as national program director for the Center for Environmental Citizenship.

Rep. Winter lives in Westminster with her husband, Mark; her dad, Mike; and her young children, Tobin and Sienna.
