Ryden’s Veterans Preference Bill Passes House

(Feb. 1) – A bill to extend veterans’ preference in state hiring to spouses of veterans passed the House today on a vote of 52 to 7.

HB13-1008, sponsored by Rep. Su Ryden (D-Aurora) will extend the veterans’ preference in state hiring to include spouses of veterans if the veteran is unable to work due to a military service-connected disability. The candidate has to prove the veteran spouse’s disability.

Rep. Ryden said she is happy the bill garnered such bipartisan support.

“This bill continues to support the men and women who have been in uniform by helping those who are unable to work,” Rep. Ryden said. “This is the least we can do for the families who sacrifice while their loved one is serving to protect us.”
