A Win-Win for Rural CO

(March 25) – Assistant Majority Leader Dominick Moreno’s bill to make it easier for rural electric co-ops to meet their renewable energy targets without scaling back Colorado’s commitment to renewables won unanimous Transportation & Energy Committee approval this afternoon.

SB15-046, sponsored in the House by Rep. Moreno, D-Commerce City, would allow rural electrical co-ops to count the production of community solar gardens toward their requirements under the state’s renewable energy standards. Community solar is a cost-effective way to produce renewable energy.

“Everyone came together to make renewable energy more affordable and easier to obtain in rural communities,” Rep. Moreno said after the 13-0 committee vote. “I’m thankful for the bipartisan support for making rural Colorado a priority this session.”

The bill goes to the House floor.
