Bipartisan Support for the Rights of Disabled Parents

(March 20) – Rep. Jessie Danielson’s bill to prohibit discrimination against the parenting rights of disabled Coloradans cleared the House of Representatives today.

HB18-1104 passed the House on a 47-14 vote. The bill prohibits a parent’s disability from serving as the basis for denying or restricting custody, visitation, adoption, foster care or guardianship of a child.

“Disability should never be an automatic exception to the idea that all Coloradans deserve the right to parent their children,” said Rep. Danielson, D-Wheat Ridge. “This bill is about keeping families together.”
