February 23, 2012 (Denver) – Republicans killed a bill today that would have protected more Coloradans from radon gas hazards in their homes. The House State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee voted 5-4 on party lines to kill the bill. Rep. Larry Liston (R-Colorado Springs) indicated that the recovery of the housing market trumped Coloradans’ health.
February 22, 2012 (Denver) –Rep. Pete Lee’s bill to provide a preference to Colorado companies who employ Colorado workers and veterans failed today in the State Affairs Committee on a party-line vote. HB12-1113, sponsored by Rep. Pete Lee (D-Colorado Springs), would have promoted a preference for companies who hire Coloradans first when bidding for state contracts.
February 21, 2012 (Denver) –Rep. Daniel Kagan’s bill to ban the use of BPA in the making of baby products failed today in the Economic and Business Development Committee. HB12-1174 would have banned the sale of baby bottles and pacifiers made with Bisphenol A in Colorado. Eleven other states have signed a ban similar into law.
