Danielson Moves to Undo GOP Blow to Pay Equity

(Jan. 23) – The female majority in the House Democratic caucus united today in response to Senate Republican efforts to turn back the clock on Colorado women’s struggle for pay equality.

On Wednesday, Republicans on the Senate Business, Labor & Technology Committee voted to eliminate the state’s long-standing Pay Equity Commission, which is charged with seeking solutions to the pay disparities between women and men who are doing equal work.

Rep. Jessie Danielson, D-Wheat Ridge, wasted no time in responding, filing a bill today to restore the Pay Equity Commission. Her cosponsors are the other 18 women in the House Democratic caucus.

“Senate Republicans have taken a step backward in the march towards pay equality instead of working to grow the middle class,” Rep. Danielson said. “Women in Colorado still earn only 80 cents for every dollar earned by men in the same job. That pay disparity is hurting Colorado’s economic recovery. My bill offers them a second chance to side with Colorado women who are working hard to provide for their families.”
