Exum Bill to Streamline Veteran Services Takes First Step

(Feb. 20) – A bill that would give veterans the option of having a military identifier on their Colorado licenses and IDs passed the House State, Military & Veterans Affairs Committee today unanimously.

Currently, when active-duty military members apply for an ID card, they have the option of printing their branch-of-service identifier printed on the card. However, an oversight excluded veterans from having an identifier. HB13-1119, sponsored by Rep. Tony Exum (D-Colorado Springs), fixes this oversight by adding veterans as an identifier option, allowing veterans to use this convenient service.

“This is an easy, smart way for us to recognize our veterans and honor the commitment they’ve made to our nation,” Rep. Exum said. “This will make it much easier for veterans to prove their service to receive veteran benefits and access state services.”
