House Dems Advance Climate Change Goal

(Feb. 8) – A bill by Rep. Faith Winter, D-Westminster, and Rep. Jeni Arndt, D-Fort Collins, to add measurable goals to the state climate action passed the House on a voice vote this morning. HB16-1004 requires the state’s climate action plan to include goals to reduce Colorado’s greenhouse gas emissions or increase ability to respond to the effects of climate change.

“As we were drafting this bill we felt one of the most important aspects of the climate action plan was the collaboration in the process,” said Rep. Winter. “The plan has included a robust stakeholder process. Now it needs goals to ensure our state continues to address and adapt to climate change.”

“My city, Fort Collins, leads the charge in fighting climate change,” said Rep. Arndt. “Now it’s time for all of Colorado to set measurable goals in our state’s climate action plan.”

The bill proceeds to a third reading on the House floor.
