House Observes Military Appreciation Day

(Jan. 26) – Joined by scores of veterans and active military personnel, including a Coloradan who survived the sinking of the U.S.S. Arizona, the Colorado House of Representatives observed Military, Veterans and MIA/POW Appreciation Day today.

“Today and every day we honor our veterans and members of our military. Thank you for your service to Colorado and our nation,” said Rep. Susan Lontine, D-Denver, who organized Military Appreciation Day with Rep. Terri Carver, R-Colorado Springs.

The House approved the following resolutions:

  • HJR18-1003, sponsored by Reps. Lontine and Carver, recognizing Military, Veterans, and MIA/POW Appreciation Day at the state Capitol.
  • HJR18-1004, by Reps. Daneya Esgar, D-Pueblo, and Judy Reyher, R-La Junta, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the capture of the U.S.S. Pueblo by North Korea.
  • HJR18-1005, by Reps. Dominique Jackson, D-Aurora, and Kim Ransom, R-Littleton, recognizing the service of African-American veterans.
  • HJR18-1006, by Reps. Dan Pabon, D-Denver, and Phil Covarrubias, R-Brighton, recognizing the service of Latina and Latino veterans.
  • HJR18-1007, by Reps. Mike Weissman, D-Aurora, and Shane Sandridge, R-Colorado Springs, recognizing Colorado’s role in space and cyber defense.
  • HJR18-1008, by Reps. Pete Lee, D-Colorado Springs, and Lang Sias, R-Arvada, recognizing the positive impacts of adaptive sports programs for Colorado veterans.
  • HJR18-1009, by Reps. Donald Valdez, D-La Jara, and Larry Liston, R-Colorado Springs, renaming the Fillmore Street bridge over Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs for Don Stratton, a Colorado Springs resident and former U.S.S. Arizona crewman who survived the Pearl Harbor attack.
  • HJR18-1010, by Reps. Dafna Michaelson Jenet, D-Commerce City, and Lois Landgraf, R-Fountain, recognizing military personnel from Colorado who have served in the ongoing war against terrorism.
