Lifetime Hunting and Fishing Licenses for CO Vets

(May 8) – With a 6-3 vote, the House State, Military & Veterans Affairs Committee this afternoon approved a bill by Reps. Barbara McLachlan and Jessie Danielson to give Colorado veterans lifetime licenses to hunt and fish free of charge.

“I believe veterans who hunt and fish ought to be able do so for free – and that is why I wrote the Colorado Heroes Hunting and Fishing Act,” said Rep. McLachlan, D-Durango. “It’s the least we can do for Coloradans who stepped up to defend our freedoms.”

“We owe a debt to Coloradans who served our country and put their lives on the line for us,” said Rep. Danielson, D-Wheat Ridge. “In a state as beautiful as Colorado, one of the things we can do to honor the service of those who put their lives on the line for us is give veterans free access to hunt and fish.”

HB17-1374 grants veterans a free lifetime small game hunting and fishing license, or any big game license the veteran qualifies for under rules of the parks and wildlife commission, as long as the veteran has been a resident of Colorado for at least two years, served in the armed forces for at least two years and was honorably discharged.

The bill continues to the House Appropriations Committee.
