Rep. Monica Duran
Monica Duran represents House District 24, which encompasses Wheat Ridge, Edgewater, Golden, Mountain View, and is serving her first time in the House of Representatives. She sits on the Business Affairs & Labor and the State, Veterans, & Military Affairs Committees.
As a young adult, Rep. Duran took on a very personal battle of her own. As a survivor of domestic violence, and a once homeless single mother, she plans to fight to ensure that the voices of our most vulnerable do not slip through the cracks and suffer in silence.
Married for over thirty years, and with four grown sons, she has worked for over three decades in the dental industry, managed a downtown dental practice for 25 years and most recently worked for a dental office right here in Jeffco.
In 2015, Rep. Duran was a leader of the campaign for Wheat Ridge Issue 300, a grassroots uprising of citizens pushing back against out-of-control development that was threatening her community’s quality of life and won. Rep. Duran recently served on the Wheat Ridge City Council, and previously served as a Director of the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection Board. Her community experience also includes serving as a board member for the Jefferson Center for Mental Health, the Wheat Ridge Planning Commission, the West Metro Veteran Resource Network, Heading Home, an organization dedicated to ending homelessness, as well as having served on the Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival board. She is also a member of the Jefferson County Democratic Latino Initiative and the Wheat Ridge Grange.
In addition to her public service, Rep. Duran has been a dedicated Democratic volunteer. She has volunteered for the Jefferson County Democratic Democratic Party, served as a delegate to numerous assemblies, is a member of the HD-24 Democrats, and has stepped up at the precinct level as a Democratic PCP.
