Shannon Bird lives in Westminster and represents HD35. She sits on the Appropriations Committee, the Business Affairs and Labor Committee, and the Finance Committee.
Rep. Bird was raised by her hard-working, single mom and her grandmother in Reno, Nevada. She moved to this state to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. She continued her education at the University of Colorado at Denver and earned an M.B.A. and M.S. in Finance while working full-time. She knew that she wanted to use her business and finance knowledge in a legal context, so she enrolled at the University Of Denver College Of Law to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming an attorney.
A commitment to building and investing in better communities led her to her first job after law school with the national law firm, Kutak Rock LLP where she worked on projects to build schools, roads, highways and infrastructure for large, new neighborhood developments.
She was given the opportunity to expand her practice and work on more diverse job creating and economic development projects with the Denver firm Holme Roberts & Owen LLP (n/k/a Bryan Cave LLP). At this firm, she worked on large corporate and commercial finance transactions and commercial real estate development financing.
In 2005, Rep. Bird and her husband David, had their first child, Elizabeth and two and half years later, their son James was born. Since her children have been born, Rep. Bird has been a tireless advocate for fair and equitable funding for all of our State's public, neighborhood schools. In 2015, she was elected to the Westminster City Council. During her time as a Councilmember, Rep. Bird worked to increase affordable housing and economic development within the City of Westminster. One of her proudest achievements while serving on City Council was to create the first formal apprenticeship program for area high school students within Westminster City Government departments.
