Oil & Gas Accountability and Safety Bill Advances

(March 28) – A bill to increase public confidence in the state’s regulation of oil and gas operators passed the House Transportation & Energy Committee today on a 7-5 vote.

HB13-1269, sponsored by Rep. Mike Foote (D-Lafayette), tackles the credibility gap faced by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission by rebalancing the focus of the COGCC on public health, safety and welfare. It also prohibits new members of the commission from simultaneously being employed by an oil and gas operator.

“This bill addresses the system, it addresses the mission of the COGCC, and it ensures accountability to increase public trust,” Rep. Foote said.

HB13-1269 now goes to the House floor.
