(June 10) – A bill by Reps. Dan Pabon and Joann Ginal to protect kids from marijuana edibles that are easily confused with candy was signed into law by Governor John Hickenlooper today.
“This law will provide important protections for Colorado kids, so that they don’t accidentally ingest THC-infused products that look exactly like regular candy,” said Rep. Dan Pabon, D-Denver.
“This is a commonsense approach to protecting Colorado kids,” said Rep. Joann Ginal, D-Fort Collins. “Marijuana edibles are designed for adults over 21 years of age, and we need safeguards to ensure that these products don’t mimic products marketed to children.”
HB16-1436 requires the Marijuana Enforcement Division in the Department of Revenue to create rules that prohibit edible medical and retail marijuana products shaped like a human, animal or fruit. Governor Hickenlooper highlighted his concerns with edibles in his State of the State speech this January.
