Standing Up to Heart Disease

(April 7) – A bill by Rep. Dianne Primavera, D-Broomfield, passed on second reading this morning that would improve coordination of data and the quality of care for heart attack patients in Colorado.
“Heart disease is the number one cause of death for women and men,” said Rep. Primavera. “This bill implements important recommendations and will improve cardiac care for residents of Colorado.”
HB16-1357 implements recommendations from a task force which was designed to improve the quality of care to patients who suffer ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) heart attacks—the most deadly variety. The bill will lead to better coordination of data on heart attacks and creates the Heart Attack Advisory Committee in the Department of Public Health & Environment.
The bill passed out of committee on a 10-3 vote and now proceeds to a third reading on the House floor.
