(March 7) – A bipartisan measure by Rep. Tracy Kraft-Tharp, D-Arvada, and Rep. Lois Landgraf, R-Colorado Springs, to clarify pathways to licensure for mental health professionals passed the House on second reading this morning.
“This is a good bill that streamlines the pathway to licensure for mental health professionals,” said Rep. Kraft-Tharp. “We’re doing this to speed up the process for college graduates to enter the workforce.”
Currently, unclear statutory language unintentionally diverts students away from their correct pathway to licensure and creates unnecessary financial burden. HB16-1103 cleans up the statutory language and clarifies the guidelines for recent graduates.
The passage of HB16-1103 would strengthen the mental health workforce by as many as 4,000 licensed professionals according to the National Association of Social Workers.
The bill proceeds to third reading on the House floor.
