Alex Valdez was born and raised in the Denver Metro area, and now represents House District 5, which encompasses downtown Denver, as well as one of the most polluted zip codes in the country.

His call to service began in high school as a crusader for animal rights and shelters, and he soon came to be an outspoken environmentalist. After the 2008 recession, Rep. Valdez founded what is now one of the largest solar companies in Colorado and brings his passion for creating a greener future to his work as a State Representative.

Rep. Valdez’s love for animals and the environment continues today, and are driving forces behind his work in the Colorado State Legislature. He is the chair of the Energy and Environment Committee, using his position to amplify environmental justice issues, and serves on the Capital Development Committee and State, Civic, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. As Chair of the Latino Caucus and member of the LGBTQ Caucus, Rep. Valdez is proud to bring representation to the State House and work amongst a diverse cohort of legislators.

In his first term, Rep. Valdez authored and passed laws to bolster Colorado’s community solar garden industry, protect the public from air toxic emissions and improve the state’s mechanisms for dealing with cases of animal cruelty. He will continue to advance environmental and animal rights issues throughout the 2021 Legislative Session, while also focusing on COVID-19 relief measures for all Coloradans.
