Monica Duran
Majority Leader
Representative Monica Duran is House Majority Co-Whip and represents House District 24, which includes Wheat Ridge, Golden, Edgewater and Mountain View.
Her mother is a first generation Mexican-American, who marched alongside Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta fighting for the right to unionize, fair wages and better working conditions. Rep. Duran grew up knowing the importance of protections for workers in our communities.
As a survivor of domestic abuse, Representative Duran knows that we must fight to ensure that our most vulnerable do not slip through the cracks. She has been a champion on legislation related to domestic violence, animal welfare, and supporting working families. She has led legislation to improve wages for home care workers, maintain sibling relationships between foster youth, and help survivors of domestic violence access unemployment benefits.
Prior to her election in 2018, she served on the Wheat Ridge City Council and as a Director of the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection Board. Her work in the community also includes serving as a board member for several community organizations.
Rep. Duran serves on the House State Civic, Veterans, and Military Affairs, Business & Labor Affairs, Appropriations Committees and Co-chairs the CLAW Caucus and Children’s Caucus. She has long been invested in helping vulnerable members of her community and improving quality of life for all residents. In 2021 she looks forward to continuing to serve at the Capitol with a focus on promoting child safety, protecting domestic violence survivors, animal welfare, senior provider access, and supporting small businesses.
