Bacon, Lukens Celebrate Passage of Prop NN

DENVER, CO – Assistant Majority Leader Jennifer Bacon and Representative Meghan Lukens today released the following statement on the passage of Proposition NN. SB26-135 referred this measure to the ballot to allow school funding to grow with the economy, rather than be restrained by the TABOR cap.

Assistant Majority Leader Jennifer Bacon, D-Denver and Representative Meghan Lukens, D-Steamboat Springs:

“This victory belongs to our students, teachers and schools! For years, Colorado teachers and schools have been asked to do more with less. TABOR has kept us from meeting the true needs and adjusted cost of a 21st-century high-quality public education.  Voters agreed that school funding should grow alongside Colorado’s economy.

“With Prop NN, more state funds are freed up for K-12. This means more educators in classrooms, smaller class sizes and stronger special education and wraparound support services. We applaud our teachers, education advocates and community members who worked tirelessly to get Prop NN across the finish line. Coloradans stepped up to support teachers and students, and we couldn’t be more proud.”
