Colorado Democrats Secure Resounding Majority in House

DENVER, CO – Coloradans voted tonight to maintain Democratic leadership of the Colorado House. As ballots continue to be counted, some key races may be too close to call, but Colorado Democrats have once again secured an overwhelming majority in the House. Democrats have held the majority in the Colorado House since 2013.

“Thank you, Coloradans, for placing your trust in Democrats to govern responsibly, lower costs and fight back against any unlawful federal overreach,” said Speaker Julie McCluskie, D-Dillon. “In Colorado, Democrats win because we get things done. In stark contrast to the chaos and dysfunction in the White House, we’ve successfully implemented policies that make child care and healthcare more affordable, protect your right to an abortion and safeguard our clean air, water and public lands. Colorado Democrats are working toward a brighter, stronger future for everyone.”

“It’s clear from tonight’s results that Democrats are the right people to lead our state forward,” said Majority Leader Monica Duran, D-Wheat Ridge. “Colorado voters agree with Democrats on the issues that matter the most, including lowering costs and making our communities safer. Our strong democratic majority is the direct result of listening to voters, finding solutions and delivering results. Tonight, voters rejected President Trump’s party that slashed healthcare and food assistance in favor of corporate tax cuts. Colorado Democrats will always defend your rights and freedoms.

Last session, Democrats passed pivotal legislation to make Colorado more affordable, boost the economy, create jobs, and protect your rights, as politicians in Washington levied unprecedented new pressures on the legislature and the state.

Legislative Wins from the 75th General Assembly

Making Colorado More Affordable: Democrats continued their pledge to lower housing costs through the Housing Opportunities Made Easier (HOME) Act. This law streamlined the process for many non-profits, schools and transit districts to build housing on their land. Lawmakers also passed SB26-001 to improve local governments' flexibility and address housing shortages. Democrats lowered property insurance costs and chipped away at healthcare costs to save Coloradans money. Democratic lawmakers passed bills to incentivize renewable energy sources, diversifying our energy dependence and saving families money on their utility bills.

Standing Up Against Trump: In the wake of unlawful federal overreach, Colorado Democrats safeguarded your freedoms, rights and the Colorado Way of Life. Lawmakers protected non-profits from politically motivated attacks on their funding and expanded access to life-saving vaccines. Thanks to the work of Democrats, abortion remains safe and accessible in Colorado. Lawmakers passed a new law to expand access to reproductive health care on college campuses. Colorado’s water, air and land are precious, which is why Democrats passed a law to safeguard our environment from pollution. Lastly, Democrats believe in a free and fair election process, which is why they championed legislation to insulate Colorado’s elections from federal tampering or interference.

Creating a Fair-Shot Economy for Everyone: Democrats help foster an economy where everyone can build a life they’re proud of. Last year, lawmakers passed bills that boosted wages, created jobs and made it easier for Coloradans to pursue a good-paying career in their community. Trump’s tariffs and economic policies are hurting Colorado farmers and ranchers, which is why Democrats stepped up to support Colorado’s ag industry with property tax relief and extra support for the next generation of farmers.

Finding Solutions: Democrats successfully navigated a billion-dollar budget deficit while protecting core services, including healthcare, public safety and K-12 education. After a multi-year process of robust stakeholding, lawmakers passed a nation-leading law to protect consumers from discrimination when they interact with AI. Democrats also addressed gaps in Colorado’s criminal justice system to keep communities safe and modernize competency laws.
