DENVER, CO – Sponsors of HB26-1226, Representatives Jenny Willford, D-Northglenn, and Meg Froelich, D-Englewood, and Senators Mike Weissman, D-Aurora, and Lisa Cutter, D-Jefferson County, released the following statement regarding the Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement yesterday.
“We condemn yesterday’s reckless and shortsighted decision to eliminate rules that keep our communities safe and healthy by limiting greenhouse gas emissions. This rollback puts our air quality, public health, and climate at risk by removing important protections.
“We predicted something like this could happen. Earlier this year, Colorado Democrats passed a state law, HB26-1226, which allows Colorado to set our own emissions limits and air quality standards. While the federal government continues to ignore science and endanger Coloradans’ well-being, we’re stepping in to protect our communities and meet our climate goals.”
