Eliza Hamrick

State Representative Eliza Hamrick serves House District 61 in SE Aurora and Centennial and is a member of the Education Committee and the Public and Behavioral Health and Human Services committee.


A career high school history and government teacher in the Cherry Creek School District for over 32 years, Eliza has won numerous teaching awards, including Daughters of the American Revolution Colorado Teacher of the Year, and the Never Forgotten Colorado Teacher of the Year. Eliza is a Library of Congress Fellow and was twice sent to the country of Estonia to deliberate with ethnic Estonian and Russian teachers and students about democracy and the First Amendment.


Eliza has consulted for and worked with a variety of civic education groups, including the Constitutional Rights Foundation, Colorado Social Studies Education Consortium, The Colorado Digitization Project, Rocky Mountain PBS, and the Center for Education, Law, and Democracy.

Eliza has dedicated her professional career to supporting students, educators, families, and the community of HD 61.


Eliza has been married to Mike, an Air Force veteran, for over 30 years, and they have two children, Eliza and Thomas, and two grandchildren, Matthew and James.
